Week Eight - 10 PRINT

I very much enjoyed the anecdotes about porting games. Specifically looking at the connection between porting a video game to a different platform and translating a written work to another language. When examining the challenges in porting any given work of art from language to language or platform to platform the person conducting the port influences the work and the ported work reflects their interests and their interpretation of the original work. I had not thought extensively about the issues when translating art with many artistic aspects like poetry or games, should the translator focus on keeping the meaning consistent, the feel, the aesthetics, etc.?

When reading about Esolangs, I especially found the comedic ones enjoyable to think about. An esolang is short for an esoteric programming language, or a language not intended for use in professional development. These languages can explore computers or art in ways traditional programming languages cannot, and can also express comedic or emotional themes. ArnoldC was especially amusing to me as a straight-up joke esolang. However, I also enjoyed the more meta comedic esolangs such as JSFuck that make fun of the medium of code.
